About Sahana D’Silva

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us… And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Willamson

A reflective morning in a coffeeshop

Enjoying the cool breeze of the fragrant spring morning, Amrita strolled peacefully toward her favorite coffeeshop. The soft purple wisteria hung above their outdoor seating, wafting perfume toward her as she approached.

Inside, the rich green philodendron, interspersed with flowering plants, ran along the walls. She sat by the indoor fountain while soaking up the warmth of sunshine streaming through the window.

She closed her eyes to savor her latte, listening to the gurgle of the falling water, and gazing out the window. Her mind wandered over yesterday’s psychotherapy session. She thought, “It was rough.”

“So many transitions in my life are happening at once.”

Moving to a new country, first child, becoming a full-time mother and homemaker with a career in journalism on hold, and married to a man who frequently travels for work are life-changing transitions.

Although Amrita has supportive in-laws living nearby, they don’t understand cultural differences in raising a child. As she longed for the past freedom of travel, reading, and attending cultural events, she thought, “Where do I find time for myself?”

Amrita was grateful for a therapist who listened compassionately, heard and understood her. She felt guided to find her own inner truth, not by canned therapeutic answers, but by finding her own solutions that fit her reality of life.

Amrita reflected on the positive changes in her life since starting therapy. Both consciously and unconsciously, she has set changes in motion. She has shifted her perspective on life through newly gained insights and has found new ways of moving past and responding to challenges in life.

Shaping what I offer to what you need

Our initial meeting will involve conversation about your life. The primary goal of this first meeting is to listen to you and to hear where you most deeply desire change in your life. Together, we look at the variety of services I offer and attempt to find one that best fits your needs to start this journey of self-growth.

We co-create a mutual plan and goals for our time working together. The ways we work may change. For example, we may change from coaching to psychotherapy. It depends on the growth that unfolds in you.

Sometimes we have a clear picture of the destination. At other times, knowing what kind of change you want, we set off together to discover the path unfold, following cues, interpreting signs, and exploring and arriving at your destination.

Emotionally attuned conversations that empower growth

Over the years of working in the fields of mental health, self-growth, and leadership and communication, I have deepened and refined my skills. This allows me to offer a unique combination of qualities that I can bring to your care.

The insights and perceptions that I offer draw from an integrative, multi-level approach. Your consultation may involve integrative mental health consultations, coaching, personal and professional leadership development, psychotherapy, or spiritual integration work.

Regardless of the type of approach, you will experience deep listening and an emotionally attuned conversation. You will feel empowered as you move confidently toward tangible solutions and results.

Together, we track these outcomes. This involves goal-setting, journaling, and other measures of your satisfaction in your growth process.

Personal and professional growth is a mix of conscious and unconscious, outer and inner shifts, and measurable and immeasurable positive changes. Some growth is incremental, and some is immense.

While working with me, you will experience an expanded awareness of new possibilities and skills, while finding ways to grow toward them. You will become an active agent in crafting your own life.

Finding your authentic self

Whether you are beginning with me from a place of seeking healing, discovery, or growth and transcendence, ultimately each of these threads intertwine toward a more developed, more evolved You.

The work you choose to do with me may include identifying, clarifying, and aligning your passion and purpose. In doing that, you make strides toward fulfilling your destiny.

Through such work is where I believe you will find the greatest joy, satisfaction, and meaning in life.

It is my deepest wish to be of service to you on that path, as you step closer toward who you truly are inside – that authentic, powerful, creative, whole being called You.

Why Would You Want To?

Know Who You Are and What You Want. Get Where You Are Meant to Be.

My childhood and early adulthood were spent between Bangalore, India, and New York City. Perhaps because of this transcultural upbringing that included many languages and faith traditions, I have never fit into one mold. I see myself as a global citizen.

While deeply grounded as to who I am as a person, I also can shift quickly and blend into a variety of environments. This quality may explain why many feel at home in my presence.

Spiritual and personal growth are at the core of who I am now and who I am constantly becoming. I bring this perspective to my healing work – my passion and purpose, my service on this planet.

Seeking my passion and purpose led me to spend a year between medical school and residency traveling globally. I wanted to understand spirituality in healing practices and integrative treatments, including Ayurveda and yogic life, Tibetan Buddhism, Sufi practices, and shamanic healing.

It was a year well spent and has guided my path for many years. I learned to develop a blend of integrative medicine, mental health, preventive care, psychological trauma healing, cross-cultural work, spirituality, and emotional intelligence-based leadership development. A mouthful? Yes, it is!

My offer to you

“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be
to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” ~T. S. Eliot

Three of my papers reflect my growth as a physician healer, and they reveal what I can offer to you. These offerings include global spiritual treatments for trauma, reflection on what gives us meaning in life, and how life shapes emotional intelligence in leaders.

I stand firmly committed to empathic listening, deep intuition, and interdisciplinary collaboration, all balanced with a strong clinical acumen. In approaching mental health and wellness, I challenge myself constantly to push the boundaries of cultural and diagnostic frameworks and appreciate the complex interactions of body, mind, society and spirit.

At an organizational level, my varied leadership experience is used to promote creative emotional intelligence-based personal leadership development for team managers and leaders. Through retreats, teaching, coaching and consultations for individuals within organizations, team members are coached in reflection, vision-setting, personal practices, burnout prevention and wellness, and emotional development.

Over time, these leadership practices deepen communication and nurture purposeful professional leadership, while integrating systems-level thinking in leaders. I believe these to be keys for both greater life balance and meaning.

Something personal

I fervently pursue the triple aim of balancing self, family, and friends.

My pursuits include nutritious meals, yoga and spiritual practice, ecstatic dancing, deep reading dives, lap swimming, soulful singing, gardening, and wandering travels near and far.

Nurturing relationships with my life partner and co-therapist in this practice, while mothering our creatively passionate toddler, are constantly evolving.

I enjoy writing creative nonfiction stories about the interplay between society, culture, and mental health.

All these and more fill my life with color and joy.
